In his first major competition since the Sochi Winter Olympics, the one and only Shaun White stole the show…once again as the new Dew Tour Champion for Men’s Snowboard Superpipe.

With nearly continuous snowfall blanketing the slopes of Breckenridge, the Men’s Superpipe competition went off as planned, albeit in slightly challenging conditions. While practice runs saw most of the competitors struggling with speed due to rapidly accumulating snow, many of the more technical tricks appeared much harder to execute. When finals rolled around however, a select few were able to transcend the adversity.

In a highly anticipated return to the Dew Tour, White came out firing, going bigger and landing more impressive tricks than the rest of the field as he battled the adverse conditions with apparent ease. Starting off with a double overheard backside air, White then proceeded to pick the pipe apart with a frontside double cork 1080 followed by a Cab double cork 1080 before wrapping up his run with a move he invented himself, a double McTwist 1260, or Tomahawk, as he calls it. In the end, it was a fairly obvious win with the judges awarding him a well-earned 92.60.

Coming in a close second was Japan’s Ayumu Hirano whose stylish Japan grabbed Crippler on his first hit may have been the smoothest trick of the entire competition. Somehow able to keep speed through the choppy flat bottom, Hirano’s score of 89.40 was due in large part to an effortless style that makes him one of today most entertaining riders to watch.

Olympic Gold Medalist Iouri Podladtchikov’s 84.20 landed the Swiss national in third with a super technical run that included a cab double cork 1080, as well as the competitions loftiest strait air on his first hit.

At the end of the day it was White who once again showed why he is our generations greatest Superpipe competitor. Incredibly, after a full year away from snowboarding it was another effortless win for the rock-star snowboarder.

Not one to mince words, White got straight to the point saying simply, “It’s great to be back.”
